Der einwertige Alkohol Linalool aus der Gruße der acyclischen Monoterpene ist eine farblose Flüssigkeit, die einen erfrischenden und blumigen Geruch verströmt. Der Wirkstoff Linalool kommt in den ätherischen Ölen verschiedenster Kräuter vor. Besonders hoch ist das Vorkommen in Kräutern wie Lavendel, Bohnenkraut, Thymian, Oregano, Basilikum und Koriander. Der Wirkstoff kommt sowohl in der Kosmetik als auch in der Parfümindustrie zum Einsatz und wird in Parfums als Ersatz für Bergamotte verwendet.
